The Edo State Police Command has launched an investigation into viral videos circulating on social media showing two young men in distressing conditions. One of the videos reportedly captures a man lying on a hospital bed at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) with a hand severed from the wrist, while another depicts a young man sitting on the ground, visibly brutalized, with a severed hand placed on his head.
Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc, has ordered an immediate and thorough investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the disturbing incidents. He assured that the Command remains committed to bringing all those involved to justice and ensuring accountability.
The Command is appealing to the victims seen in the videos, or anyone who can identify or contact them, to urgently reach out to the Office of the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) at the Edo State Police Command Headquarters, Benin City, or call the following numbers: 08077773721 or 08037646272. The police emphasized that all necessary steps will be taken to ensure justice is served.
While the investigation continues, the Edo State Police Command has urged the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information that may cause panic or disrupt the investigative process. The Command strongly condemned all forms of mob action, describing such acts as criminal, unjustifiable, and contrary to the principles of law and order.
Citizens were reminded that no individual or group has the right to take the law into their own hands. The Command reiterated its zero tolerance for jungle justice and warned that anyone found engaging in such acts will face the full weight of the law.
The Edo State Police Command also appealed to residents to provide credible information that could assist in the ongoing investigation. The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, maintaining public order, and ensuring a peaceful and secure environment across the state.
