Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have foiled a kidnap attempt along the Benin–Akure Road, rescuing eight victims, including three children, from armed men who attacked a commercial bus on Saturday, October 25, 2025.
According to a statement issued through its Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, a distress call was received around 5:00 p.m., prompting the swift deployment of Ekiadolor Division operatives to the scene between Obarenren and Odunwongie Communities. The attack reportedly occurred at about 4:30 p.m. when gunshots were heard between a military checkpoint and the Anti-Kidnapping checkpoint in the area.
Investigations revealed that a 14-seater Hummer Bus, with registration number KJA 119 XF and driven by one Francis Okeke of Afuze in Owan East Local Government Area, was ambushed by armed men who abducted fifteen passengers into a nearby forest. Police operatives immediately pursued the suspects and successfully rescued eight of the victims unhurt.
The Command confirmed that seven other passengers are still missing, assuring that intensive efforts are underway to locate and rescue them. An aggressive manhunt for the kidnappers has been launched, supported by advanced tracking technology, while the driver of the vehicle is assisting the police with investigations.
