Members of the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room, in collaboration with the Josemaria Escriva Foundation, have commended the Executive Chairman of Oredo Local Government Council, Hon. Engr. Gabriel Iduseri, for his commitment to transparency and good governance. The delegation, led by Dr. Jude Obasume, paid a courtesy visit to the Council Secretariat to explore areas of partnership with the local government.
During the visit, Dr. Obasume expressed appreciation to His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for bringing governance closer to the people through visionary leaders like Hon. Iduseri. He emphasized that Oredo, as a central Local Government Area hosting the Palace of the Oba of Benin, the Government House, and the State House of Assembly, remains vital in promoting transparency in governance and budgetary implementation.
He further praised Hon. Iduseri for his leadership initiatives and expressed the group’s willingness to collaborate with the Council—particularly through the Departments of Budget, Works, and Information—to strengthen public access to budgetary information. According to him, members of the group’s Community Governance Committee have been trained to effectively monitor government budgetary processes to promote openness and accountability.
Responding, Hon. Engr. Gabriel Iduseri appreciated the group’s commitment to advancing civic engagement and assured them of the Council’s dedication to transparent governance. He noted that his administration operates an open and accountable system in line with established local government regulations, ensuring that all developmental decisions reflect the people’s needs.
The Oredo Council Chairman also revealed that upon assumption of office, he inaugurated a Blueprint Committee to identify and address the priority needs across the twelve wards of the LGA. He urged civil society organizations to expand their advocacy to include awareness campaigns on the dangers of drug abuse, stressing that the fight against the menace must involve every stakeholder—government, families, schools, and religious institutions.
