The Italian State Police have dealt another significant blow to drug trafficking in Turin following a successful anti-narcotics operation in the city’s Barriera Milano district, resulting in the seizure of more than one kilogram of cocaine and heroin and the arrest of two suspected traffickers.
According to police authorities, officers from the Barriera Milano Police Station carried out the operation during routine surveillance aimed at combating the illegal drug trade, an issue that continues to challenge several neighborhoods across the city.
Suspicious Activity Leads to Police Intervention
Investigators reportedly observed a 36-year-old Nigerian man entering an apartment on Via Ascoli, where a 34-year-old Senegalese national resided. After spending only a few minutes inside, the man exited the building, prompting officers to stop and question him.
Police believe the two suspects had just completed packaging narcotics into small capsules intended for distribution. Their suspicions led officers to conduct immediate searches of both residences.
Large Quantity of Drugs Recovered
During the search of the first apartment, officers recovered approximately 44 grams of cocaine and heroin.
The investigation was then extended to the Nigerian suspect’s residence, where officers discovered a much larger quantity of narcotics—approximately 1.2 kilograms of cocaine and heroin. The drugs had been divided into numerous capsules of varying sizes and were found alongside packaging materials believed to have been used in preparing the substances for street distribution.
Authorities estimate that the seized narcotics, if distributed on the illicit market, could have generated a substantial amount of illegal profit.
Two Suspects Arrested
Following the operation, both men were arrested on suspicion of possession of narcotic substances with intent to distribute.
As required under Italian law, the suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty by a final court judgment. The seized substances will undergo forensic analysis as part of the ongoing criminal investigation.
Continuing Fight Against Drug Trafficking
The latest arrests form part of a broader campaign by law enforcement authorities to dismantle organised drug trafficking networks operating within Turin. In recent months, police have intensified patrols and investigative operations throughout Barriera Milano, an area that has been the focus of repeated anti-drug enforcement activities.
Officials continue to encourage residents to cooperate with law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities, emphasising that community collaboration remains essential in improving public safety and reducing criminal activity.
