In a bid to enhance electricity access and improve livelihoods across rural communities, the Chairman of Oredo Local Government Council, Hon. Engr. Gabriel Iduseri, hosted the CEO of Izenergy, Mr. Blessing Eze, and his foreign partners at the Council Secretariat.
The meeting focused on exploring areas of collaboration for rural electrification, industrial power supply, and a proposed 10MW pilot renewable energy project to serve various parts of the local government.
In his presentation, Mr. Eze explained that Izenergy, in partnership with the World Bank and the Bank of Industry, is spearheading clean and sustainable energy projects in underserved communities within Edo State. He disclosed that an ongoing World Bank-sponsored project is already active in the Irhiri axis of Oredo LGA.
According to him, the long-term vision of the rural electrification initiative is to ensure energy reliability, economic growth, and affordable power access that will stimulate development in rural areas.
He added that the proposed 10MW concession will deliver sustainable, scalable energy across Oredo, with support from regulatory bodies and the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC).
Responding to inquiries from the Council Chairman and his Executive team, Mr. Eze outlined key expectations from the local government, including access to land, community mobilization, security, and provision of infrastructure such as poles and wires. He emphasized that Izenergy would ensure the power remains the most affordable option for benefiting communities.
In his remarks, Hon. Iduseri welcomed the proposal and commended the vision behind the project.
He assured the team that the Council would thoroughly review the partnership offer and work towards a model that lessens the financial burden on rural dwellers proposing that Izenergy supply the poles while the communities provide wires for connectivity.
The Chairman reaffirmed Oredo’s readiness to partner on initiatives that prioritize community development and sustainable energy access.
