Hamburger traders at Oba Market, under the umbrella of the Hamburger Traders Union, staged a peaceful protest at the Oredo Local Government Council Secretariat, carrying placards and chanting solidarity songs over allegations of quit notices and an attempted takeover of their shops.
Addressing the protesters, the Chairman of Oredo Local Government Council, Hon. Engr. Gabriel Iduseri, appealed for calm and harmony while assuring the traders that the issues raised would be handled with fairness and transparency.
Hon. Iduseri emphasized that his administration remains fully committed to justice, equity, and fairness, noting that the welfare of traders and small business owners is a core priority of the council.
He further assured the traders that all allegations and concerns would be thoroughly investigated, promising that appropriate actions would be taken based on facts, while urging the protesters to remain calm and law-abiding as the process unfolds.
The engagement ended on a hopeful note after extensive deliberations, with the council chairman attentively listening to the traders’ demands.
The traders expressed concerns that the lingering issues pose a serious threat to their livelihoods and the economic stability of their families.
In his concluding remarks, Hon. Iduseri reiterated the Governor Monday Okpebholo-led administration’s commitment to the ongoing construction and redevelopment of Oba Market.
He called on the traders to support government efforts by maintaining peace and allowing contractors to carry out their duties effectively, in the overall interest of legitimate shop owners and the market community.
