“Bauchi Road Crash: Channels Television Cameraman Kani Ben Buried in Adamawa as Nigeria Confronts Persistent Highway Fatalities.”

ADAMAWA, Nigeria The remains of Kani Ben, a cameraman with Channels Television, have been laid to rest in his hometown in Adamawa State after he succumbed to injuries sustained in a road crash in Bauchi State.
The burial drew family members, colleagues, and members of Nigeria’s media community, who paid tribute to a journalist widely regarded for his professionalism, resilience, and commitment to impactful field reporting. His death has intensified concerns about road safety conditions in Nigeria, particularly for journalists and other frontline workers who frequently travel across long distances to cover breaking events.
Fatal Crash in Bauchi
According to multiple reports, Ben sustained critical injuries in an auto crash in Bauchi State. Despite medical intervention, he later died from complications arising from the accident. As of the time of filing this report, authorities have not released a detailed account of the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Road accidents remain a pressing public safety issue in Nigeria. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has consistently identified speeding, dangerous overtaking, driver fatigue, poor vehicle maintenance, and deteriorating road infrastructure as major contributors to highway fatalities across the country.
Bauchi State, located in Nigeria’s North East geopolitical zone, has witnessed periodic road mishaps along key inter-state routes, reflecting broader national challenges in traffic enforcement and infrastructure management.
Media Community Pays Tribute
Colleagues at Channels Television described Kani Ben as a dedicated visual journalist whose work strengthened reportage from northern Nigeria. Tributes from fellow journalists and professional bodies emphasized the risks media workers face in pursuit of timely and accurate reporting.
Across Nigeria, reporters and camera crews often travel under demanding schedules, sometimes navigating unsafe road conditions and limited logistical support. Media advocacy groups have repeatedly called for stronger institutional safety frameworks, including enhanced transport standards and emergency response preparedness for field teams.
Renewed Calls for Road Safety Reform
The tragedy has once again spotlighted the urgent need for comprehensive road safety reforms. The FRSC continues to advocate stricter compliance with traffic regulations and improved collaboration between federal and state authorities to reduce accident rates.
As the nation mourns Kani Ben, stakeholders stress that beyond condolences, systemic measures must be strengthened to safeguard lives on Nigerian highways.‎
