The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected allegations by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) linking the ruling party to recent disturbances involving the opposition in the state.
In a statement signed by its State Publicity Secretary, Barr. Peter Uwadiae-Igbinigie, the APC described the claims as baseless, misleading and an attempt by the ADC to divert attention from its internal challenges.
The party said the ADC has been grappling with internal divisions, citing a recent incident in which some party leaders led by former Senate Chief Whip, Roland Owie, were reportedly denied access to a meeting at the residence of former Edo State Governor, John Odigie-Oyegun.
According to the APC, the development, which was widely reported, exposed deep-seated crises within the ADC. It added that subsequent events had further highlighted instability within the party.
The APC expressed concern that the ADC was attempting to deflect attention from its internal wrangling by dragging the ruling party into issues it described as self-inflicted.
The party also maintained that it is a structured and disciplined political organisation, stressing that its recent ward and local government congresses were conducted peacefully across the state.
It further stated that the Edo State Government had consistently advised political actors and high-profile visitors to notify relevant authorities ahead of major public engagements to enable adequate security arrangements in the interest of public safety.
The APC insisted that the challenges facing the ADC are purely internal and have no connection with the party at either the state or national level.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful, issue-based politics and to supporting democratic governance, stability and development in Edo State.
