The Chief Medical Director of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu, on Wednesday commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare sector.
Her commendation followed the delivery of modern healthcare equipment to UBTH by the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Health in collaboration with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA).
Prof. Ize-Iyamu described the intervention as historic, noting that it is the first time in the hospital’s 53-year history that it is receiving such equipment support.
She said the development reflects the positive impact of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on healthcare delivery across the country.
Expressing appreciation to the Federal Government, the CMD stated that the equipment would significantly enhance the hospital’s capacity to provide quality maternal and neonatal healthcare services.
“We want to say we are grateful. The whole world is going to hear about this intervention. We are going to shout it out because when we say thank you, we expect to get more. It is the first time we have had this at UBTH,” she said.
Prof. Ize-Iyamu assured that the hospital would ensure the effective utilization of the newly delivered equipment to improve maternal and neonatal healthcare outcomes.
The equipment supplied includes delivery beds, anaesthetic machines, baby cots, fetal monitors/CTG machines, fetal toco-cardiographs, theatre equipment, labour ward equipment, diathermy machines, neonatal ventilators, humidity gauges, autoclaves, centrifuges (16 and 24 buckets), blood bank equipment, blood refrigerators, and blood freezers.
Those present during the handover of the equipment included the Edo State Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Mr. Ighodaro Lawani-Osawe; the contractor’s representative, Mr. Safianu Mohammed; Chief Medical Advisory Committee Chairman (CMAC), Dr. Emmanuel Osaigbovo; Deputy CMAC, Prof. Anthony Atimati; Head of Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, UBTH, Prof. Ehigha Enabudoso, among others.
The intervention is expected to strengthen UBTH’s capacity to deliver improved maternal and neonatal healthcare services to patients.
