The Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development has strongly condemned a disturbing video circulating on social media showing some male students allegedly assaulting another male student at Igbinedion Education Centre in Benin City.
In a public statement, the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. (Mrs.) Eugenia Abdallah, described the incident as deeply troubling and unacceptable.
According to the Commissioner, acts of violence, bullying and abuse among students undermine the values of respect, safety and dignity that schools are meant to uphold.
She stressed that educational institutions must remain safe spaces where every child can learn, grow and thrive without fear of intimidation or harm.
The Commissioner disclosed that the ministry has begun engaging with relevant authorities and the management of the school to ensure a thorough investigation of the incident and appropriate action in line with child protection laws and school regulations.
Abdallah emphasized that the welfare and protection of every child remains a top priority of the Edo State Government.
She also called on parents, guardians, school administrators and members of the public to reinforce values of empathy, discipline and mutual respect among young people.
According to her, bullying and violence must never be tolerated, adding that all stakeholders must work collectively to prevent such incidents and safeguard the well-being of children.
The ministry reassured the public of its commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of children across Edo State and pledged continued collaboration with relevant agencies to ensure justice, accountability and the prevention of similar incidents in the future.
