The Edo State Tourism Agency, in collaboration with the Edo State Waste Management Board (EWMB), has launched a one-day public sensitization campaign aimed at promoting environmental cleanliness across the state.

The exercise targeted major commercial areas including Ring Road, Benin City, Mission Road, Benin City, and Lagos Street, Benin City, where officials engaged traders, shop owners and members of the public on proper waste disposal and hygiene practices.
Addressing traders and shop owners at Ring Road, the Director-General of the Edo State Tourism Agency, Vivian Elabor, stressed the importance of sanitation in safeguarding public health and sustaining tourism growth in the state.
She noted that the increasing number of visitors and tourists to Edo State makes it imperative for residents and business owners to maintain a consistently clean environment.
Lady Elabor also highlighted the commitment of Governor Monday Okpebholo to the welfare of residents and his administration’s vision of making Edo a model of environmental cleanliness in Nigeria.
She urged traders to avoid indiscriminate waste disposal and ensure that waste bins are provided within their business premises for both operators and customers.
According to her, continuous public education is necessary to address ignorance that often leads to improper waste disposal and environmental hazards, adding that the campaign was not punitive but aimed at creating safer and healthier business environments.
Also speaking, the Managing Director of EWMB, Lucky Enehita Inegbenehi, described the campaign as a collective responsibility that requires the cooperation of all stakeholders to achieve a cleaner Edo State.
Both agencies assured that the sensitization exercise would continue until residents fully embrace the responsibility of maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
