The University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) has recorded a significant turnout, with over 100 patients benefiting from its ongoing 50 percent discount on selected dental treatments.
The initiative, part of activities marking the 2026 World Oral Health Day themed “A Happy Mouth is a Happy Life,” is organised by the Nigerian Dental Association in collaboration with UBTH.
Speaking on the exercise, the Coordinator of the UBTH Dental Centre, Dr. Nneka Chumwumah, expressed satisfaction with the impressive turnout since the programme began.
She noted that the discount is aimed at improving oral health within the community by making dental care more affordable and accessible, adding that more than 100 patients have already received various dental procedures at reduced costs.
Dr. Chumwumah also commended the hospital management for prioritising oral healthcare through the initiative.
Some beneficiaries, who spoke anonymously, lauded the UBTH management, led by the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu, describing the programme as timely and impactful.
They said the 50 percent discount has eased the financial burden of dental treatments, enabling more people to access essential oral healthcare services.
It will be recalled that Prof. Ize-Iyamu officially flagged off the programme on Monday, announcing that the discounted services would run from March 16 to 19 at the UBTH Dental Centre.
Making dental care more accessible is an important step towards better oral health, but maintaining a healthy mouth also involves paying attention to problems that may affect the jaw and the way a person bites or chews.
Some conditions develop gradually and can cause discomfort during everyday activities, making it difficult to eat comfortably or move the jaw without pain.
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders are one such concern, as they affect the joints and muscles responsible for jaw movement. Information about these conditions is available through tmjspecialistlasvegas.com, which focuses on TMJ-related concerns and the treatment options available to people experiencing jaw dysfunction.
Recognising these problems early can help individuals seek an appropriate assessment before the discomfort begins to interfere more significantly with eating and other daily activities.
Good oral health therefore involves more than routine dental check-ups, as the condition of the jaw also plays an important part in maintaining comfort and normal mouth function.
Initiatives that reduce the cost of dental treatments can encourage more people to seek care before minor problems become serious concerns.
Beyond these hospital programmes, regular visits to dental professionals remain important for maintaining healthy teeth and gums.
Choosing a dental practice like Lumos Dental can help individuals stay consistent with routine checkups and address oral health concerns at an early stage.
Greater awareness and access to affordable services can help more people take timely steps towards better dental health.
The offer covers essential procedures including scaling and polishing, tooth extractions, Glass Ionomer Cement (GIC) restorations, and dental radiographs.
