The member representing Orhionmwon/Uhunmwonde Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Billy Osawaru, has reaffirmed his commitment to improving the welfare of his constituents through sustained empowerment initiatives.

Speaking during a mega empowerment programme held on Saturday in Ikhueniro, Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo State, Osawaru said the intervention forms part of deliberate efforts to enhance livelihoods and stimulate economic growth across communities in Orhionmwon and Uhunmwonde.

The event, which attracted party leaders and stakeholders from both local government areas, featured the distribution of empowerment tools and equipment to beneficiaries. Items distributed included 20 mini-buses, 100 tricycles for persons with disabilities, 60 motorcycles, 20 Keke NAPEP units, 150 sewing machines, 65 grinding machines, and 70 welding machines.
Addressing the gathering, Osawaru noted that his role as a federal lawmaker goes beyond lawmaking, stressing the importance of directly impacting the lives of his constituents.

“Every day I am in the National Assembly making laws, I keep asking myself if I have done well enough for my people to be satisfied,” he said.

“I can say I have done well, but it is now left for me to consolidate on my areas of strength and improve on my areas of weakness,” he added.

His wife, Mrs. Ann Osawaru, who accompanied him to the event, urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the distributed items. She emphasised that the initiative was designed to promote self-reliance and long-term economic stability.

Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the lawmaker, noting that the support would significantly improve their standard of living.

One of the beneficiaries, Osawe, commended Osawaru’s efforts, stating that he “has done well for the constituency and deserves to be returned.”

Another beneficiary, Mrs. Idia, said the sewing machine she received would enable her to start a clothing business.“I have been finding things very difficult, but with this machine, I can now begin a meaningful livelihood,” she said.

Dignitaries present at the event included former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Samson Osagie; former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Elizabeth Ativie; Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Eugene Utubor; a representative of the Chief Medical Director of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Dr. Mrs. Idia Ize-Iyamu; former council chairmen, Ms. Ivie Idahosa; General Manager of Edo-CSDA, Hon. Anslem Agbabi; and other party leaders from Orhionmwon and Uhunmwonde.

Osawaru, who chairs the House Committee on African Integration and Cooperation, is seeking the ticket of the All Progressives Congress for a second term in office.
