The event, held on Thursday at the AWO Idowu Igbinoba Parade Ground and the Muhammadu Buhari Auditorium of the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport (NASST), marked the formal end of active service for the senior officers.

In his farewell address, the Reviewing Officer, Major General Olaniyi Michael Dare (rtd), described the ceremony as both symbolic and significant, noting that it represents the conclusion of decades of dedicated service, sacrifice, and commitment to the defence of Nigeria.

He highlighted the critical role played by the retired generals in ensuring sustained logistics support for troops across various theatres of operation, including training, peace support missions, and internal security operations. He also acknowledged the contributions of their families, whose support he said was vital throughout their careers.

Speaking at the gala night, the Commander, Corps of Supply and Transport, Major General Nansak Danjuma Shagaya, commended the leadership of the Nigerian Army and all contributors to the successful organisation of the event, noting that the gathering celebrated both the honourees and the institution they served.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, represented by the Commander, Corps of Ordnance, Major General Abdullahi Garba Ibrahim, praised the Corps for maintaining high standards in logistics and administrative support, describing its contributions as vital to the operational effectiveness of the Nigerian Army.

Also, Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, represented by his Chief of Staff, Yakubu Musa, said the Nigerian Army has remained a strong institution due to the dedication and sacrifices of its officers.

He noted that retirement offers an opportunity for the honourees to continue contributing through mentorship and experience.

Those honoured include Major Generals OM Dare, EA Anaryu, UT Otaru, and E Akerejola, alongside several brigadier generals. The event attracted senior military officers, past commanders, heads of paramilitary agencies, and other dignitaries.

Highlights included a ceremonial march-past, cultural dance performances, comedy presentations, and the presentation of gifts and souvenirs.
