President Bola Tinubu and Governor Caleb Mutfwang have vowed to bring perpetrators of the recent gunmen attack in Jos, Plateau State, to justice. The attack, which occurred on Palm Sunday, claimed 28 lives and left several others injured.
Tinubu condemned the attack, describing it as “heartless and cowardly.” He directed security agencies to intensify efforts to track down the perpetrators and curb the spread of misinformation.
Governor Mutfwang declared that Plateau State would not succumb to fear or intimidation, assuring residents that decisive steps had been taken to restore calm. A 48-hour curfew has been imposed in Jos North, and security agencies have been mobilized.
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) condemned the killings, describing them as “gruesome” and unacceptable. The association warned that repeated attacks without accountability foster a culture of impunity and erode public confidence in the state’s ability to protect lives.
Opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, have called for more stringent actions to address the spike in insecurity.
