“Dangote Targets Pan-African Capital Markets with 10% Refinery Stake Sale in Landmark 2026 IPO”

Africa’s richest industrialist, Aliko Dangote, has announced plans to float a 10% stake in the Dangote Refinery through a Pan African Initial Public Offering (IPO) scheduled for 2026. The move is aimed at broadening ownership of the $20 billion facility while unlocking fresh capital to support expansion and operational efficiency across Africa’s largest oil refinery.

The refinery, located in the Lekki Free Zone in Lagos, has a refining capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, positioning it as a transformative infrastructure project for Nigeria and the wider continent. Industry analysts say the planned IPO could deepen regional capital markets participation, allowing institutional and retail investors across Africa to take part in one of the continent’s most ambitious industrial ventures.

According to Dangote Group, the partial divestment is part of a broader strategy to strengthen financial resilience, improve transparency, and attract long-term African investment into critical energy infrastructure. The company has also indicated that listing across multiple African exchanges is under consideration, reinforcing its Pan African outlook and aligning with efforts to integrate the continent’s financial markets.

Economic experts note that the IPO could help reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported refined petroleum products by stabilizing domestic supply chains, while also generating foreign exchange earnings through exports. However, they caution that market conditions, regulatory frameworks, and investor confidence across participating exchanges will play a critical role in determining the success of the offering.

The announcement comes at a time when African economies are increasingly seeking innovative financing models to bridge infrastructure gaps and drive industrialization. If successfully executed, the Dangote Refinery IPO could serve as a benchmark for large scale, cross border investment initiatives on the continent.
