“LAUTECH Confirms Over ₦1.4 Billion NELFUND Student Loan Disbursement for 2025/2026 Academic Session”
Ogbomoso, Nigeria The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) has confirmed the disbursement of over ₦1.4 billion in student loans under the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) scheme for the 2025/2026 academic session, highlighting what it describes as a strengthened and productive partnership aimed at expanding access to higher education financing in Nigeria.
According to the university, the funds have been channeled to support eligible students across various faculties, easing financial burdens and improving retention rates amid rising educational costs. LAUTECH noted that the collaboration with NELFUND continues to play a significant role in ensuring that no qualified student is denied education due to financial constraints.
The NELFUND initiative, established by the Federal Government of Nigeria, is designed to provide interest free loans to students in tertiary institutions nationwide. The scheme has been widely positioned as part of broader reforms to improve access to education and reduce dropout rates, particularly in public universities facing funding challenges.
University authorities emphasized that the disbursement reflects improved efficiency in loan processing and verification systems, as well as stronger institutional cooperation between tertiary institutions and the national loan agency. Students benefiting from the scheme are expected to begin repayment after completing their studies and securing employment, in line with the fund’s repayment structure.
Education stakeholders have continued to monitor the rollout of the scheme, describing it as a potentially transformative policy for Nigeria’s higher education sector if sustained and properly managed.
