The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, has congratulated Idia Royals Cricket Club on their impressive victory at the South-South Female Cricket League, describing the achievement as a proud moment for Edo State and a boost for women’s sports development.
Idia Royals clinched the title with a commanding 87-run victory over Delta Force Cricket Club in the final held at the Centre of Excellence for Women’s Cricket, Iyoba Girls College, Benin City.
The champions posted 141 for 4 in 20 overs and restricted their opponents to 54 for 8 in 16.5 overs.
In a statement issued by his Media Aide, Edoko Wilson Edoko, Enabulele praised the team’s discipline, resilience, and outstanding performance throughout the tournament, noting that their success reflects the growing strength of grassroots sports development in Edo State.
He also commended the organisers, the Nigeria Cricket Federation, and other key stakeholders for sustaining the competition and providing a platform for young female athletes to excel. He noted that the tournament plays a vital role in discovering and nurturing talents capable of representing Nigeria on the global stage.
“The triumph of Idia Royals is not just a victory for a team, but a celebration of the rising profile of women’s cricket in our region. It shows what is possible when talent is supported with structure and opportunity,” Enabulele said.
He further applauded all participating teams, including Smashers Cricket Club of Akwa Ibom, which finished third, for contributing to a competitive and successful tournament.
Enabulele reaffirmed the Edo State Government’s commitment to promoting sports development, particularly among young women, adding that such achievements will continue to inspire the next generation of athletes.
The tournament also featured individual awards for standout players, underscoring the depth of talent across the South-South region.
