Edo Govt Promises Support for Family of Late ITV Correspondent, Kingsley Uchegbu

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has assured the family of late Independent Television and Radio (ITV) reporter and Government House Correspondent, Kingsley Uchegbu, of government support following his death.

The governor gave the assurance during a condolence visit to the residence of the deceased in Benin City through a delegation led by the Chief of Staff, Hon. Yakubu Musa.
Speaking during the visit, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, said the state government would stand by the widow and children of the late journalist and provide necessary support to ease their burden.

“Madam, we are sent here by the governor, and we can assure you that we will not leave you alone in this. We will be part of the process that will give succour to you and your children,” Afegbua said.

He described the late Kingsley Uchegbu as a dedicated, humble and committed professional who discharged his duties diligently.

“We are consoled by the fact that nobody amongst us here can speak ill of Kingsley. He was dedicated, committed, humble and lived a simple life,” he added.
Afegbua also encouraged the widow to remain strong for the sake of her children.

A church elder of Winners Chapel, Dr. Magnus Oshiogwe, who spoke on behalf of the family, thanked the Edo State Government for the prompt condolence visit and appealed for continued support for the bereaved family.

“Whatever the government can do to support this family, please do, as it will go a long way in easing their pains,” he said.

He noted that the late journalist was a committed member of the church and described his death as a painful loss to both the church and the community.

Kingsley Uchegbu died on Wednesday, May 7, 2026, after a brief illness. Until his death, he was a staff member of Independent Television and Radio seconded to the Government House Press Corps.
He is survived by his wife, children and aged mother.

Other members of the government delegation included the Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Ken Ihensenkhien; Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Patrick Ebojele; Special Adviser to the Governor on Electronic Media, Paul Ezenwa; and members of the Government House Press Corps.
