The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has officially unveiled its N100 billion Trust Development Fund (TDF) as part of efforts to strengthen the institution’s infrastructure, academic excellence, research, innovation, and overall development.
Speaking during the unveiling ceremony in Benin City, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Edoba Omoregie, delivered the opening address where he highlighted the activities and objectives of the Trust Development Fund, as well as ongoing developmental strides by the institution.
The N100 billion Trust Development Fund was formally unveiled by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, alongside other members of the board.
Addressing journalists, Ize-Iyamu called on stakeholders, particularly UNIBEN alumni across the world, to support the initiative in order to advance the growth and global competitiveness of the university.
According to him, leading higher institutions across the world continue to thrive through strong alumni support, diversified funding sources, sustainable partnerships, and institutional adaptability.
He explained that the Trust Development Fund was established to create a sustainable financial and development framework that would continuously support excellence in teaching, research, infrastructure, technology, entrepreneurship, and human capital development.
“It is this evolving reality that drives the vision behind the University of Benin Trust Development Fund. Our mission is clear — to establish an enduring financial and development framework that will continuously empower the University of Benin to deliver excellence in teaching, research, infrastructure, technology, entrepreneurship, and human capital development that future generations will be proud to inherit,” he said.
Ize-Iyamu also acknowledged the support and contributions of members and supporters of the initiative, including Chief Richard Ahonaruogho SAN, Emmanuel Oriazuwa Esq., Kingsley Jesuorobo Esq., Dr. (Mrs.) Loretta Oduware Ogboro-Okor, and Mr. Alexander Eronmwon.
Also speaking with journalists were the Media Director of the Trust Development Fund, Dr. (Mrs.) Loretta Oduware Ogboro-Okor, and the Students’ Union President, Comrade Blessing Inadison, who both expressed optimism that the initiative would significantly improve the university’s development and students’ learning experience.
The official launch of the University of Benin N100 billion Trust Development Fund is scheduled for July 4, 2026.
