FIFA World Cup 2026: Shakira and Burna Boy Set to Deliver Official Anthem ‘Dai Dai’ at Historic Opening Ceremony in Mexico City

Global music icons Shakira and Burna Boy have been confirmed as headline performers for the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where they will perform “Dai Dai,” the tournament’s official song, before a worldwide audience in Mexico City.

FIFA announced that the Colombian superstar and Nigerian Afrobeats sensation will debut the anthem live at the World Cup opening ceremony scheduled for June 11, 2026, at Mexico City Stadium. The performance is expected to serve as one of the defining cultural moments of the tournament, bringing together football, music, and international unity on one of the world’s biggest stages.

“Dai Dai” was officially unveiled earlier this year as the FIFA World Cup 2026 song in partnership with the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund. According to FIFA, proceeds connected to the project are intended to support global education initiatives aimed at expanding access to quality learning opportunities and football development programs for children worldwide.

For Burna Boy, the performance marks another major milestone in the global rise of African music. The Grammy Award-winning Nigerian artist joins an elite group of performers associated with football’s most prestigious competition, reinforcing Africa’s growing influence in international entertainment and sports culture. His collaboration with Shakira combines Afrobeats, dance pop, and Latin musical elements, reflecting the multicultural identity of the first FIFA World Cup to be jointly hosted by Mexico, the United States, and Canada.

Shakira’s return to the World Cup stage also carries special significance. The singer has become closely associated with FIFA tournaments through previous global hits, including “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” during the 2010 FIFA World Cup and “La La La (Brazil 2014).” Her latest collaboration with Burna Boy continues that legacy while introducing a new generation of football fans to a fresh World Cup anthem.

FIFA has also revealed that the opening ceremony will feature a broader lineup of international artists, highlighting the organization’s strategy of using music as a platform to celebrate cultural diversity and global unity ahead of the month long football spectacle.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to be the largest edition in the tournament’s history, featuring 48 national teams and matches across North America. Organizers expect billions of viewers worldwide to follow the competition, making the opening ceremony one of the most watched entertainment events of the year.

As anticipation builds toward kickoff, the collaboration between Shakira and Burna Boy underscores the increasing prominence of African talent on the global stage and highlights the power of music to connect audiences across continents through sport and culture.
