The Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, has rescued 47 civilians held captive by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in Kangarwa village, Kukawa LGA, Borno State.
The rescue took place on June 20, 2026, following sustained ground and air operations against ISWAP enclaves in the Lake Chad region.
According to Acting Media Information Officer Capt. Mohammed Goni, the unrelenting pressure forced the terrorists to abandon their positions in confusion, allowing the captives to escape. Most of those rescued are women and children who had been held for a prolonged period.
The victims are currently receiving medical attention at a secure location. Humanitarian agencies are providing support and working with security forces on their reintegration into their communities
Goni said the operation reflects OPHKās commitment to degrading terrorist capabilities and securing the release of civilians held against their will. The Theatre Command added that offensive operations will continue to dismantle remaining ISWAP networks and restore normalcy across the North East.
