“Femi Fani Kayode Receives Diplomatic Credentials, Describes Ambassadorial Role as Divine Call to Serve Nigeria”
Former Nigerian Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has officially received his Letters of Credence, marking the commencement of his diplomatic assignment as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to South Africa, with concurrent accreditation to Lesotho and Eswatini.
Describing the appointment as a “divine opportunity to serve,” Fani-Kayode expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for entrusting him with the responsibility of strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic and strategic relations across Southern Africa.
Speaking after receiving his diplomatic credentials, the newly appointed High Commissioner said the assignment represents both an honour and a sacred duty. He pledged to advance Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives, deepen bilateral cooperation, promote regional peace and economic partnerships, and safeguard the interests of Nigerians living in the three countries.
Fani Kayode noted that he would work closely with the governments of South Africa, Lesotho, and Eswatini to enhance collaboration in trade, investment, security, education, tourism, and cultural exchange. He also reaffirmed his commitment to fostering stronger people-to-people ties while supporting the broader vision of African unity and continental integration.
His appointment comes at a time when Nigeria continues to strengthen diplomatic engagement across Africa through strategic partnerships aimed at boosting economic growth, regional stability, and intra-African cooperation under the framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Political observers say the appointment places renewed attention on Nigeria’s diplomatic relationship with South Africa, one of the country’s most important economic and political partners on the continent. Relations between the two nations have experienced periods of cooperation and occasional diplomatic tensions over the years, making effective engagement a key priority.
As he assumes office, Fani-Kayode has pledged to represent Nigeria with integrity, professionalism, and dedication while advancing the country’s interests throughout Southern Africa.
