Fubara Mourns Amaechi’s Mother, Honours Late Matriarch’s Legacy of Faith and Community Service.
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has extended his condolences to former governor of the state, Rotimi Amaechi, following the death of his mother, Mrs. Mary Amaechi, at the age of 89.
Mrs. Amaechi reportedly died peacefully on Thursday, July 16, 2026. Her family described her as a devoted Christian, respected community leader and cherished matriarch who played a central role in nurturing her family and promoting peace, unity and service within her community.
In his condolence message, Governor Fubara acknowledged the late matriarch’s influence and legacy, describing her as a mother whose prayers and counsel helped shape generations of leaders from Rivers State.
The governor expressed sympathy to Amaechi and the entire Amaechi family, offering words of comfort as they mourn the loss of a woman remembered for her faith, strength and contributions to her family and community.
The condolence message comes as tributes continue to come in from political leaders and public figures following the death of the former governor’s mother. President Bola Tinubu has also expressed sympathy to Amaechi, describing the late Dame Ezinne Mary Oduah Amaechi as a woman whose life reflected faith, sacrifice, kindness and devotion to family and service.
Rotimi Amaechi, who served as Rivers State governor from 2007 to 2015 and later as Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation, is currently a prominent figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The death of his mother has drawn condolences from across Nigeria’s political landscape.
