“Turin’s Piazza Baldissera Reopens Via Stradella as Traffic Lights Go Offline for Local Police Controlled Transition”

TURIN, ITALY A key section of Via Stradella at Piazza Baldissera in Turin has reopened to traffic following the completion of tram track works, marking another major step in the reconfiguration of one of the city’s busiest road junctions.

The section between Via Chiesa della Salute and Piazza Baldissera is now fully accessible in both directions. The carriageway of Via Cecchi leading out of Piazza Baldissera towards Via Cigna has also reopened, bringing the junction closer to its planned final traffic configuration.

As traffic arrangements adjust to the newly reopened routes, the traffic lights at Piazza Baldissera have been temporarily suspended to allow the signal system to be aligned with the new road layout. During this transition, traffic is being regulated directly by Local Police officers at the scene.

Motorists have been advised to drive with caution, follow officers’ instructions and expect possible delays as traffic patterns settle. The traffic light timings are expected to be recalibrated in the coming days.

The latest reopening forms part of a broader redevelopment of Piazza Baldissera, a major six road junction that has long been associated with heavy congestion and complex traffic movements. The area was previously transformed from a large roundabout into a signal-controlled intersection, with adaptive traffic lights introduced as part of efforts to improve traffic flow.

Although the main road configuration is now substantially in place, some ancillary works remain ongoing, including projects linked to pedestrian and cycling infrastructure and public transport facilities. The developments are expected to continue shaping traffic movement around the northern Turin junction in the months ahead.
