Makinde Unveils 177 Modern Shops, Motor Park and Key Infrastructure Projects to Boost Oyo’s Economy.
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has inaugurated 177 newly constructed shops, a modern motor park, and several complementary infrastructure projects in Oyo town, describing the development as part of his administration’s commitment to promoting inclusive economic growth and improving the welfare of residents.
The newly commissioned projects are designed to provide a safer and more organized business environment for traders, enhance transportation services, and stimulate commercial activities across the ancient town. The governor said the initiatives align with his administration’s broader vision of strengthening local economies while creating opportunities for small and medium sized enterprises.
Speaking during the inauguration, Makinde emphasized that sustainable development goes beyond road construction and public buildings, noting that strategic investments in markets, transport infrastructure, and public facilities directly improve livelihoods and encourage private sector participation. He reiterated that his government remains focused on delivering projects that address the practical needs of citizens and foster long term economic development across Oyo State.
The newly completed motor park is expected to improve traffic management and provide a more secure and efficient transport hub for commuters and commercial drivers. Meanwhile, the 177 shops are intended to accommodate traders in a modern setting, helping to reduce congestion while promoting organized commerce within the community.
Residents, traders, and community leaders welcomed the projects, expressing optimism that the improved infrastructure would attract more businesses, increase local revenue generation, and create employment opportunities for youths and entrepreneurs. Analysts also note that investments in market infrastructure and transportation remain critical drivers of economic growth and urban development in Nigeria.
Governor Makinde has consistently maintained that infrastructure development is central to his administration’s agenda, with ongoing investments in roads, healthcare, education, and commercial facilities aimed at improving the quality of life for residents across Oyo State.
