Speaking on _The Nancy Isime Show_ on Monday, the singer shared the hardest lesson from his childhood and why the fear of being broke still drives him today.
“I’m not afraid of death,” Peter said. “The only thing I’m afraid of in this life is poverty. It is being broke. I have tasted it before.
Peter recounted a period when his family lived in extreme hardship in Lagos. He, his parents, six brothers and two sisters all shared a single one-bedroom flat.
“They had to divide the room with a curtain,” he explained. “That was where the whole family lived.”
The situation got worse when their landlord sold the compound. The family pleaded for more time to move out. Instead, a bulldozer came while they were still home and demolished the house.

For Peter, that experience left a lasting impression. While many people fear death, illness, or failure, his greatest fear remains returning to that place of uncertainty and lack.
The interview comes as Peter continues to perform and release music as Mr P, following the P-Square reunion and subsequent tours. He has often spoken about using his platform to talk about resilience, family, and financial independence
