Jubilation broke out in Ede, Osun State, on Saturday as incumbent Governor and Accord Party governorship candidate, Ademola Adeleke, recorded a decisive victory at his polling unit during the ongoing Osun State governorship election.
Adeleke polled 421 votes at Polling Unit 009, Abogunde/Sagba, in Ede North Local Government Area, according to reports from multiple Nigerian media outlets covering the election.
The result was announced by the presiding officer at the polling unit after voting ended and ballots were counted. Reports identified Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as Adeleke’s closest challenger at the unit, with Oyebamiji recording 22 votes, while Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) received one vote.
The outcome triggered celebrations among Adeleke’s supporters in Ede, reflecting the political significance attached to the governor’s performance at his immediate polling station.
However, the result from a single polling unit does not determine the overall winner of the Osun governorship election. The final outcome will depend on results from polling units across the state and the subsequent collation process overseen by the relevant electoral authorities.
