NORTH CENTRAL SECURITY DON LAND FOR MAKURDI AS TINUBU DON CALL FOR UNITY AGAINST INSECURITY.

Benue State Government host di 2026 North Central Regional Security Summit for Makurdi on Monday, August 31, 2026, as leaders from di region gather to find better way for tackle insecurity.

Di summit wey happen for New Banquet Hall inside Benue State Government House carry di theme “Collaborative Approaches to Strengthening Security and Regional Stability.” Di meeting bring together governors and representatives from North Central states, security chiefs, traditional rulers, religious leaders, community representatives, youths, women groups, development partners and other important stakeholders.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, wey di Secretary to di Government of di Federation, Senator George Akume, represent for di meeting, talk say military action alone no fit bring lasting peace for di North Central. E call on everybody make dem join hand, share useful information and work together against insecurity because criminals no dey respect state or local government borders.

Tinubu also appeal to traditional and religious leaders make dem serve as early warning people and trusted voices for peace. E urge communities make dem stop protecting criminals because of family, tribe or community connections. Di President say youths and women must also get strong role for peace building, while investors and development partners should see di region as place wey get plenty economic opportunities.

E warn say di summit no suppose end for another document wey nobody go implement. According to am, every recommendation must get clear person or institution wey go responsible, deadline and result wey people fit measure. E say di real proof say di meeting work na when ordinary people, especially farmers, begin feel safer for di months ahead.

Benue Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, welcome di participants and say di summit come at di right time because insecurity don continue to disturb many communities for di region. E list banditry, kidnapping, farmer herder clashes, organized crime, violent extremism and displacement as some of di major problems wey leaders must tackle together.

Governor Alia say traditional and community leaders get special role because dem dey close to di grassroots and fit hear about security threats before security agencies. E call on leaders across di North Central make dem forget political and personal differences and unite against insecurity.

Di Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd.), also say di summit must focus on practical solutions instead of making another place where stakeholders go blame each other. E ask communities to give security agencies timely and correct intelligence, while government also need address problems like economic hardship, conflict prevention and farmer herder tensions.

Di North Central region cover Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger and Plateau states, together with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Di region get big importance to Nigeria because plenty food production, farming, transportation, trade and other economic activities dey happen there. Any serious insecurity for di area fit affect food supply and movement of people and goods across di country.

Among people wey attend di summit na Nasarawa Governor, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule; Plateau Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang; Benue Deputy Governor, Barr. Sam Ode; Presidential Senior Special Assistant on Community Engagement for North Central, Dr. Abiodun Essiet; Tor Tiv, His Royal Majesty Professor James Ortese Ayatse; Och’Idoma, His Royal Majesty Agaba-Idu Elaigwu Odogbo Obagaji John; and Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Gyang Buba.

Religious leaders, CAN representatives, traditional rulers, community leaders, security officials, Igede traditional and community representatives, government officials and other stakeholders from different North Central states also join di meeting.

Di main message from di summit be say government, security agencies and ordinary citizens must work together if di region wan enjoy lasting peace. Leaders also dey push for better intelligence sharing, stronger community participation and development measures wey fit reduce di conditions wey dey help insecurity grow.
