  • The Edo State Government has debunked claims by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) alleging that Governor Monday Okpebholo approved N6 billion as compensation to so-called “Fulani terrorists” following the recent Uromi killings. In a strongly-worded statement on Thursday, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Fred Itua, described the accusation as a reckless falsehood designed to incite ethnic conflict and destabilise the peace of Edo State. The controversy stems from the events of 28 March, when sixteen hunters from Kano State were killed in the Udune Efandion community of Uromi. In the aftermath, Governor Okpebholo visited Kano to sympathise with the families of the victims and appeal for calm, while a delegation from Kano later travelled to Edo to engage in peace discussions. IPOB, in a statement released on 21 April, alleged that the Governor had secretly approved a N6 billion compensation package to appease the bereaved families a claim which the Edo State Government swiftly dismissed as baseless and inflammatory. “There is no truth whatsoever in the claim that Governor Monday Okpebholo approved or paid N6 billion to any group,” Itua said. “This is a fictitious and malicious lie concocted by IPOB to sow seeds of discord and destabilise the harmony we have nurtured in Edo State.” The government warned that IPOB’s repeated attempts to manipulate public sentiment and incite ethnic hostility under the cover of activism would not succeed in Edo State. “It has become a known tactic of this proscribed group to exploit tragic situations to spread hate and misinformation,” the statement added. “Their agenda of violence and ethnic disintegration has no place here.” Emphasising its commitment to unity, security and justice for all residents, the Edo State Government reaffirmed its stance against any form of ethnic or religious discrimination. The statement also urged security agencies to investigate the source of the inciting publication and prosecute those behind it, stressing that public order and peace must not be jeopardised by dangerous propaganda. “We remain resolute in our commitment to justice, peace and the protection of all Edo people, regardless of background,” the government declared. “We will continue to uphold the values of unity, tolerance and truth in the face of reckless attempts to destabilise our state.”

DHQ: Soldiers Rescue 36 People Wey Terrorists kidnap, Dem pkai big Terrorist  Men for Borno, Katsina.

Defence Headquarters (DHQ) don announce say Nigerian security forces don rescue 36 people wey armed terrorists abduct during different military operations for Borno and Katsina States.

According to military authorities, the operations na part of the ongoing fight against terrorism, kidnapping and other armed criminal activities for different parts of northern Nigeria.

During the operations, troops no only succeed for rescuing the abducted persons, but dem also take down some important terrorist commanders, together with other fighters wey dey operate under terrorist groups.

For Borno State, where terrorist activities don continue to affect many communities for years, troops carry out offensive operations against terrorist positions and hideouts. The soldiers move into areas suspected to be used by the fighters and engage them as part of efforts to weaken their operations.

The military say some terrorists were neutralised during the encounters, while the troops continue their movement to search for other criminals and make sure say civilians wey dey trapped or abducted by the groups get freedom.

The rescue of the 36 abducted persons na another major part of the operation, as security forces continue to target groups wey dey make money and create fear through kidnapping and other violent activities.

For Katsina State, troops also carry out operations against armed terrorists and criminal elements wey dey disturb communities for the state. The operations lead to encounters between the soldiers and the armed groups, with some of the terrorists reportedly killed.

Military personnel also recover some weapons and other materials during the operations, according to the Defence Headquarters.

The latest military successes come at a time when security agencies across northern Nigeria dey increase operations against terrorist groups, bandits and kidnappers. These armed groups don for years attack communities, abduct residents, demand ransom and force some families to leave their homes.

For many affected communities, the rescue of abducted persons fit bring some relief to families wey don spend days, weeks or even longer periods without knowing the condition of their loved ones.

But despite the successes wey security forces dey record, serious security challenges still dey remain for some parts of northern Nigeria. Terrorist attacks, banditry and kidnapping continue to threaten the safety of civilians and affect normal economic activities in some communities.

DHQ say troops go continue with their operations against terrorist and criminal networks. The military also maintain say their main objective na to protect civilians, rescue people wey armed groups abduct, destroy terrorist networks and restore peace and security for affected areas.

The latest operations therefore show the continued effort by Nigerian security forces to put pressure on armed groups and stop them from using remote communities and forest areas as bases for carrying out attacks and abductions.

For families of the 36 people wey don regain their freedom, however, the rescue means say their loved ones fit finally return home after being in the hands of armed groups.
