Seyi Makinde Launches 2027 Presidential Campaign, Calls for National Reset Amid Nigeria’s Economic and Security Challenges.
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has reportedly commenced a political campaign ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, urging Nigerians dissatisfied with the country’s current political and economic situation to support what he describes as a national reset.
The campaign message highlights pressing national concerns, including widespread hunger, insecurity, economic hardship and what Makinde reportedly characterizes as the exclusion of ordinary Nigerians from governance.
Makinde’s appeal centres on the need for a different approach to leadership, with an emphasis on national renewal, inclusive governance and addressing challenges affecting millions of Nigerians.
Makinde Begins Nationwide Presidential Campaign in Bauchi
The development comes as the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) intensifies preparations for the 2027 presidential election, positioning Makinde as its candidate against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other political contenders.
According to reports, the party scheduled the formal flag-off of Makinde’s presidential campaign for Saturday, November 7, 2026, in Bauchi State. The campaign organisation says it intends to take its message to communities across the country following the launch.
The campaign follows a series of town hall meetings held across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, where the party says it engaged citizens on issues affecting their communities. Makinde has maintained that the proposed national reset must reflect the concerns and expectations raised during these consultations.
The APM’s proposed agenda focuses on four major areas: economic reform, security restructuring, educational development and improvements to Nigeria’s socio-political environment.
The party has also presented the campaign as an opportunity to rebuild public confidence in governance and create a political alternative centred on citizens’ welfare.
Political Stakes Ahead of the 2027 Elections
Makinde’s presidential ambition introduces another dimension to the emerging political contest ahead of the 2027 general elections.
His campaign will face the challenge of translating its promises into practical policies that can address Nigeria’s economic difficulties, insecurity, unemployment and declining purchasing power.
For voters, the central question will be whether the proposed Reset Nigeria agenda offers realistic solutions, clear implementation strategies and sustainable funding arrangements.
As political activities gather momentum, Nigerians will have the opportunity to assess the candidates not only by their campaign messages but also by the credibility of their policy proposals and records in public service.
The 2027 presidential election is scheduled for January 16, 2027, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Makinde’s campaign is also expected to test the APM’s ability to expand its political influence beyond its traditional support base and mobilize voters across Nigeria’s regions.
Whether the Reset Nigeria message can translate into widespread electoral support will depend on the campaign’s ability to demonstrate how its proposed reforms would improve living conditions and strengthen public institutions.
