A fraudster apprehended a victim, in search of rent, according to the Torino cronaca, After viewing the apartment, which he assumed rented for one or two days, he disappeared as soon as he had collected the deposit. The victim is of Serbian origin who pretended to be a legitimate agency was arrested by the carabinieri of the Torino Barriera Milano Station as part of services that have been appointed to them by the Provincial Command of Turin to better counter the growth of the criminal act of scammers.
A reporter from the Torino Cronaca stated in his report: The man used to rent furnished houses for one or two days through dedicated websites, then he put a sign with the words “Rent” and his mobile number and, once contacted, he had the unsuspecting victims view the property telling them that it was his property and promptly rentable. At the time of signing the contract, the fraudster required a deposit for registration, which took place either in cash or through a transfer whose reason corresponded to the order number relating to the purchase of computer products on an e-commerce site. After the crediting, the products were sent to the scammer. Having obtained the economic benefit, the man-made himself was untraceable. The carabinieri blocked him while he received from a courier a package containing a smartphone purchased through a bank transfer made by a Senegalese to whom – according to the script – he had made believe that the crediting operation would have served for the registration of a rental contract relating to a property that he had previously viewed. Investigations are still underway to identify other victims who could be mainly foreigners and with little knowledge of the Italian language.
