The Abia State Government has announced the postponement of the resumption date for both public and private schools for the 2024/2025 academic session. Initially set for Monday, September 16, schools will now reopen on Wednesday, September 23, due to a coinciding Muslim holiday.
The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Okey Kanu, during a press briefing following this week’s Executive Council meeting in Umuahia.
In addition, the Commissioner revealed that the second batch of teacher training will take place from September 11 to September 20 at three centers: Aba, Umuahia, and Ohafia, targeting 1,800 teachers. This training is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to transform the education sector. Over 200 teachers were trained in the first batch as part of the protocols for school resumption.
Furthermore, the state government has granted a 90-day moratorium for property owners in Aba who have yet to register their properties, allowing them to do so at the old rates.
