AC Milan have decided against signing Victor Boniface after the Bayer Leverkusen striker failed to pass medical checks in Italy.
The 24-year-old Nigerian forward underwent four separate examinations in Milan this week as the club pushed ahead with plans to strengthen their attack. However, concerns raised by the medical teamālinked to the playerās history of serious knee injuriesāled to the deal collapsing.
Boniface has suffered two anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in his career, a factor that ultimately convinced Milan to pull out despite recognising his quality and potential.
The Rossoneri had identified Boniface as a prime candidate to replace Olivier Giroud, but they will now focus on signing two new strikers before the transfer window closes.
Journalist Luca Bianchin reported that Milanās medical staff were unwilling to take the risk given the physical demands of Serie A and the playerās long-term durability.
Boniface remains at Bayer Leverkusen, where he was a key part of last seasonās Bundesliga-winning squad.
