The directive was contained in a statement signed by Chief Victor Nosakhare on behalf of the Secretary of the Benin Traditional Council, Frank Irabor. According to the statement, the meeting is aimed at exploring traditional approaches that could complement government efforts in tackling insecurity, particularly incidents of kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state. The palace emphasized the need for all invited traditional religious leaders and practitioners to attend the crucial gathering. In a related development, the Benin Monarch has also scheduled another emergency meeting with youth leaders (Okaighele) from communities across the seven local government areas of the Benin Kingdom. The meeting is slated for Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at the Palace of the Oba of Benin and is expected to focus on the role of youths in enhancing security and maintaining peace within their respective communities. The emergency consultations underscore the palace’s commitment to supporting ongoing efforts aimed at restoring safety and stability across Edo State.Note: The year in your draft states “Tuesday 23rd June 2023,” but the date should likely be Tuesday, June 23, 2026 to align with the meeting schedule provided.

During the inspection tour, the governor visited the Ikpoba Hill flyover and erosion control works at Ramat Park, as well as the reconstruction of Sapele Road linking Okhatu, Etiosa, Iyanomo and Obaretin communities.

Speaking to journalists at Ramat Park, Okpebholo said the redevelopment would go beyond easing traffic congestion, noting that the area would be redesigned to reflect modern urban standards and serve as a relaxation hub for residents and visitors.

“By the time we are done with this place, it will look entirely different. We are not stopping at the flyover. We are going to build a park here so that the place will be useful for relaxation and recreation. We are also proposing additional structures that will make this place a tourist attraction,” he said.

According to the governor, the initiative is part of broader efforts to redefine Edo State’s image, promote positive engagement, and stimulate leisure and economic activities within the state capital.

Providing an update on the project, a representative of the contracting firm, CCECC, Mr. Lee, assured that work is progressing as scheduled and nearing completion. He stated that the project is expected to be substantially completed by May.

At the Sapele Road project site, Okpebholo described the reconstruction as a demonstration of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda in action. He noted that the road, which was previously difficult to navigate, has significantly improved mobility in the area.

The governor attributed the progress recorded within his administration’s one year and three months in office to the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the cooperation of Edo residents. He also commended the contractors for working round the clock to deliver the projects.

Okpebholo reiterated that while road infrastructure remains a top priority, the transformation of Ramat Park into a modern tourist attraction will stand as a signature project aimed at enhancing leisure, commerce and the overall aesthetic appeal of Benin City.
