There was tension at the Sam Ethnan Air Force Base in Ikeja, Lagos, on Friday when a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) vehicle hit and severely injured an Air Force officer. The driver of the BRT fled the scene immediately after the accident, leaving the officer in critical condition.
Eyewitnesses reported that the incident occurred around 2:00 p.m. as the officer, riding a motorcycle, was struck by the speeding BRT bus near the Air Force Base. After the crash, some youths attempted to set the bus on fire, but their efforts were thwarted by residents, passersby, and other military personnel who intervened.
One passenger on the bus recounted the chaos that followed, saying they were forced to flee when the angry crowd tried to attack the vehicle. The bus was eventually driven away by military personnel for security reasons.
The injured officer was taken to the NAF Hospital, where he is receiving critical care. The driver remains at large, and his identity is still unknown.
This incident comes just a year after another tragic collision involving a BRT bus in Lagos, which resulted in the deaths of three people riding commercial motorcycles.
