A Nigerian nurse living in Canada, Usman Grace Khadijat Olami, along with two businessmen, Ihejirika Emmanuel and Iwuagwu Victory, have been arrested by law enforcement for alleged involvement in drug trafficking.
Ihejirika, known for frequent trips to Thailand for his fish importation business, was apprehended on October 15, 2024, while attempting to board a flight to Thailand. A body scan revealed he had ingested drugs, and further observation led to the discovery of five egg-sized wraps of cocaine weighing 400 grams.
Victory was arrested after arriving in Lagos from Brazil. A body scan showed he had also ingested drugs, and he later excreted a pellet of cocaine. He admitted to smuggling 30 wraps of cocaine, 29 of which had already been handed over to another person in Ethiopia.
Olami was arrested on October 4 during a luggage search at the Lagos airport. Inside her bags, authorities found 70 parcels of synthetic cannabis weighing over 35 kilograms. She claimed she was bringing the drugs into Nigeria on behalf of her boyfriend.
In addition to these arrests, authorities intercepted large quantities of codeine-based syrup and opioid pills in two separate seizures at Nigerian seaports, with a street value of over seven billion naira. Other arrests and drug seizures occurred across multiple states, with substances like methamphetamine and cannabis also confiscated.
