The Executive Chairman of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government, Dr. Eric Osayande, on Monday, led members of Council to Ohovbe market in Ward 3 of the Local Government Area, to enforce the clean, safe and healthy environment policy in that area.

The Council Chairman has said, his administration will pick one market every Monday for clean-up; this is aimed at instilling the right attitude in the life of Ikpoba-Okha market women, residents.

Ohovbe market clean-up makes it third on the row of market clean-up campaigns since Osayande took over the reings of power in Idogbo, September 4 this year; Ogheghe and Egba markets in Wards 9 and 8 respectively tops the list of markets the Council Chairman has led men to clean-up.

Recall that in 2019, during his first term, Osayande expanded Ohovbe market, making room for more women to come in to trade.

The Monday market clean-up is a policy thrust of the Osayande-led administration aimed at ensuring clean, safe and healthy environment within and outside markets in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area

It also forms Osayande’s collaborative initiative with the Edo State Ministry of Environment and Sustainability, a programme tagged “Mega Clean Up”, to keep localities in Edo clean, safe and healthy.

In Ohovbe, he addressed the market women, urging them to be more committed to the cleanliness and safety of their business premises.

“You must dedicate more time to clean-up your business premises; our aim is to ensure that we build the right attitude in you; it must not be all about profit, you must also ensure that people who come to patronise you feel safe, feel healthy because your environment is clean”.

“This initiative is here to stay, we will pick one market every Monday to clean-up and you must ensure that you sustain the Monday exercise because we will be deploying officials to monitor your compliance with the programme”, you must cooperate with Council to help you”, Osayande added.

Iye Eki of Ohovbe, expressed joy over Osayande’s commitment; she noted that the Council Chairman possesses an uncommon disposition and pledged to continue to support and cooperate with his administration.

Members of the Efosa Uwadiae-led committee on environment, Councilors, Supervisory Councilors, and a host of others were in attendance
