The Permanent Secretary, Edo State Ministry of Youth and Gender Issues, Dr. Peter Osagie has called on Clubs to register with the Ministry just as he congratulated registered clubs and organizations for doing the proper thing which gives legitimacy to the group.
Speaking during the presentation of certificates to registered clubs by the Ministry of Youth and Gender Issues in Benin City, Dr. Peter Osagie said it is good to know that it is the same eco-system that people are doing the right thing by registering their organizations with the ministry.
According to him,,” it is always good for people who are not doing the proper thing to know that it is the same eco-system that people are doing the right thing. It is not only when people start chasing you with whips and clubs that you will now want to do what is proper.
“If the government says that as you are associating as a club or as any legal group you should be registered, all groups where ever they are must be registered. The registration confers legitimacy on your group and henceforth when you are meeting or when you have any project that you want to undertake, it is easy to tell any financial institution that you are registered and that gives legitimacy to your operations,” he added.
The Director of Youth, Mr. Asiriuwa Victor who performed the handing over ceremony of the certificates to the various clubs and associations said he is happy that this is a new development and most often when we visit they try to educate them on the importance of registration.
According to him, the moment they are registered they become part of the government and they can transact activities with the government because some of their agendas have to do with the government.
“This is a new ministry now, formerly, Ministry of Youth and Humanitarian but now Ministry of Youth and Gender Issues. All other groups that have not been registered should ensure that they come to register,” he noted.
