COAS Hosts Easter Luncheon for Troops in Edo, Praises Commitment to National Security

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Saturday, April 4, 2026, hosted an Easter luncheon for troops of Forward Operating Base (FOB) Udomi, under 4 Brigade, 2 Division Nigerian Army, in Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo State.

The event, held as part of activities marking the Easter celebration, was aimed at boosting the morale of troops deployed in the area.

In his goodwill message, the COAS noted that the Easter season, coming shortly after the Eid-el-Fitr celebration, underscores the nation’s unity despite religious differences.

He commended officers and soldiers for their professionalism, resilience, and unwavering commitment to safeguarding the country, particularly those serving in various operational theatres across the nation.

Represented by the Commandant, Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport, Major General Adebayo Adegbite, the COAS acknowledged the sacrifices of personnel who remain on duty far from their families during the festive period.

He assured troops of continued efforts to improve their welfare, including better living conditions, enhanced professional development, and stronger support systems for their families.

Earlier, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Chinedu Nnebeife, commended the COAS for hosting the luncheon, describing it as a demonstration of his commitment to troop welfare.

He noted that the initiative aligns with the COAS’ command philosophy of building a professional, adaptable, and combat-ready force capable of effectively discharging its responsibilities in a joint operational environment.

Nnebeife praised troops of 4 Brigade and 2 Division for their courage and resilience, stating that their efforts have significantly curtailed criminal activities such as banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, and other security threats within their area of responsibility.

He added that the troops’ successes have enhanced public confidence and strengthened civil-military relations.

In his remarks, the Commander, 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ahmed Balogun, expressed appreciation to the COAS for the gesture, noting that it reflects recognition of the sacrifices and dedication of troops on the frontline.

He also commended the leadership of the GOC, describing it as instrumental in achieving operational success while maintaining strong connections with personnel.

The event was attended by traditional rulers, including the Ebije I of Illushi Kingdom, HRH Christopher Ike Kebordih, chairmen of Esan Central and Esan South-East Local Government Areas, as well as heads of other security agencies in Uromi.

Highlights of the event included a luncheon, cultural dance performances, comedy presentations, and morale-boosting entertainment by the troops.
