Justice Oyindamola Ogala convicted Okodo on three charges, including inflicting grievous harm, reckless driving, and resisting arrest. The incident occurred when Okodo, attempting to evade arrest for driving against traffic, struck the officer with his vehicle.

During the trial, the prosecution sought the maximum penalty, citing public interest. The defense, however, appealed for leniency, highlighting Okodo’s status as a first-time offender and his responsibility for an elderly mother.

Before sentencing, Okodo apologized to the court. Justice Ogala emphasized that the punishment aims to deter similar offenses, protect society, and balance the interests of the victim, the convict, and the community.

The court sentenced Okodo to four years for causing grievous harm and one year for reckless driving. He was also fined N20,000 for resisting arrest. The sentences will run concurrently, with time already served credited toward his imprisonment.
