BENIN CITY, Sept. 4, 2025 — The Edo State Special Security Squad, codenamed Operation Flush Out Cultists and Kidnappers, has arrested nine suspected cultists and recovered a cache of firearms during a pre-dawn raid in Iguoshodin N’ Ikpemaba, Ovia North East Local Government Area.

Coordinator of the squad, Idemudia Noah, said the operation—conducted alongside other security agencies and community stakeholders—followed credible intelligence and a distress call from residents.
“On arrival, our men moved swiftly and arrested nine suspects,” Noah said. “A thorough search led to the recovery of two Beretta pistols, two cut-to-size double-barrel shotguns, and live AK-47 ammunition.”

According to Noah, the arms and ammunition were recovered from the premises of a building alleged to belong to the Okaighele of Omi, Mr. Osazuwa Igbineweka, who has reportedly been declared wanted by the police for allegedly threatening the peace in the community.

“Prior to this operation, we received multiple reports of cult-related unrest in Omi,” Noah added. “The raid not only resulted in arrests but also exposed the dangerous weapons used to perpetrate crime.”

Preliminary investigations indicate the suspects are alleged members of the Eiye confraternity, a group linked to violent clashes across several Edo communities, the coordinator noted. He said residents expressed relief after the arrests, adding that the action has “restored confidence” in local security efforts.

Noah emphasised that the seized weapons are prohibited arms associated with organised criminal activity. Residents of Iguoshodin N’ Ikpemaba have commended the swift intervention, describing it as timely in restoring peace.

The Special Security Squad reaffirmed its commitment to working with communities to flush out cultism, kidnapping, and other violent crimes across Edo State.
