The Edo State Government has entered into a partnership with the German Film Academy to strengthen its creative industry through professional training and international collaboration. The agreement focuses on film production, scriptwriting, cinematography, and digital storytelling.
The partnership will see young Edo filmmakers receive training from both local and German instructors through a hybrid programme held in Benin City and Germany. The initiative will start with a three-week workshop in Edo, followed by an exchange programme where the best participants will receive advanced training in Germany.
Speaking at the launch, the Edo State First Lady’s Office noted that the partnership aligns with the government’s goal to empower youth through the creative economy. The collaboration is also seen as an opportunity to promote Edo’s rich cultural heritage and strengthen its reputation as a hub for art, film, and culture.
Officials highlighted that the programme’s long-term vision is to establish a permanent film academy in Benin City, which will serve as a centre for training, innovation, and production.
This partnership marks a milestone in Edo’s creative development strategy, positioning the state to become a major contributor to Nigeria’s growing entertainment and media export sector.
