Governor Monday Okpebholo, has pledged increased funding and policy support for children and adults living with autism in the state.
Speaking through the Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Edesili Anani Okpebholo, at the 2025 Autism Awareness Programme held at the Festival Hall, Government House, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving diagnostic, therapeutic, and educational services for individuals on the autism spectrum.
She urged stakeholders to prioritize inclusivity, noting the discrimination many face in education, healthcare, and employment.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomole, described the event as a call for compassion and tangible action. He announced plans for expanded early screening, inclusive education policies, mental health support for caregivers, and statewide awareness campaigns.
Parents of children with autism, Mr. Paul Ndukwe and Mrs. Sandra Iyere, commended the state government for its efforts and called for sustained support.
The programme, organised by the Edo State Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Office of the First Lady, brought together children, parents, teachers, and stakeholders to mark the 2025 World Autism Awareness Day.
