The latest news on Edo Gubernatorial tribunal, as The Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal’s hearing was stalled today, January 27, 2025, due to the new venue, the National Judicial Institute’s Mohammed Bello Centre, not being ready. Asue Ighodalo and the PDP family were in attendance, expecting the tribunal to sit, but to their dismay, the sitting was adjourned to tomorrow.
This development means another day has been wasted for the PDP, which has only 180 days allocated for the tribunal to deliver judgment.
The PDP’s case has significant weaknesses, particularly in providing concrete evidence of widespread irregularities. Their petition relies heavily on allegations of electoral malpractices and vote manipulations, but under rigorous cross-examination, their witnesses have repeatedly faltered and failed.
Security concerns have also posed a significant threat, with suspected PDP-aligned thugs disrupting the tribunal venue, creating an atmosphere of fear and intimidation.
It’s puzzling why the PDP would seek to disrupt the process they initiated. As the wisest man ever, Solomon, would say, “Why kill the living child?” Let Governor Monday Okpebholo, the “living child,” breathe and complete the good he has started for the Edo people.
Despite the turbulence, Governor Okpebholo remains confident in the judicial process and his victory. His mandate from the people, of the people, and fornthenpeople will be upheld by the Tribunal and the Supreme Court.
The tribunal is set to resume on January 28, 2025, with the petitioners calling more witnesses and respondents’ cross-examination.
