As the world marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, the Executive Chairman of Egor Local Government Council, Hon. Osaro Osa Eribo, has called for united action in protecting women and girls from all forms of violence, abuse, and discrimination.
In a statement released on Monday, Hon. Eribo described violence against women as a serious threat not only to individuals but to families, communities, and the overall development of society. He emphasized the Council’s dedication to creating a safe and inclusive environment where women can live, work, and grow without fear or intimidation.
“As a government closest to the people, we remain committed to strengthening awareness campaigns, supporting advocacy efforts, and working with security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and civil society to address violence in all its forms,” the Chairman stated.
He added that the Council will continue promoting policies that protect the vulnerable, encourage the reporting of abuse, and ensure that justice is served to offenders.
Calling on all stakeholders—parents, youth, community leaders, and influencers—Hon. Eribo urged collective responsibility in fostering a culture of dignity and respect for women.
“To every woman and girl in Egor: you are valued, you are important, and your safety is our priority,” he said.
The Chairman reaffirmed that a society that uplifts and protects its women is one that will enjoy peace, stability, and meaningful development.
