The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old medical doctor for unlawful possession of a prohibited firearm as part of its ongoing crackdown on the proliferation of illegal arms in the state.
The suspect, identified as Dr. Kingsley Dele of Obaretin Community, was arrested on February 29, 2026, at about 10:00 a.m. by operatives of the Command Intelligence and Rapid Response Squad (CIRRS) following credible intelligence.
Police said the intelligence-led operation led to the recovery of one Beretta pistol from the suspect.
According to the Command, the arrest is part of the sustained efforts being championed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, to curb the circulation of illicit weapons that often fuel violent crimes across communities.
The police noted that the illegal possession of firearms, regardless of the status or profession of those involved, constitutes a serious threat to public peace and safety.
“The Command views the unlawful possession of firearms as a grave threat to public peace and will continue to respond with firmness and precision,” the statement said.
The police further disclosed that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend possible accomplices connected to the suspect.
The suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police reassured residents that the Command remains vigilant and proactive in its mandate to safeguard lives and property across the state.
He also urged members of the public to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information to aid crime prevention and detection.
