The Deputy Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Honourable Hakeem Jamiu has commended the food security bill signed recently into law by the Governor of the state, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.
Honorable Hakeem Jamiu while speaking with newsmen in Ado-Ekiti shortly after the Governor had given his assent stated that the signed bill will boost economic growth in Ekiti State.
Governor Kayode Fayemi recently signed four bills into law in the state and among them is the food security bill. The bills signed into law are Ekiti State Criminal Law 2021; Ekiti State Victims of Crime Law 2021; Ekiti State House of Assembly Service Commission (Re-enactment) Law 2021; and Ekiti State Food Security Law 2021.
Honorable Hakeem Jamiu has thus commended Fayemi’ over for signing the food security bill into law. The signed bill will allow political office holders to participate in the farming project launched by the Ekiti State government, tagged, “Own a farm Project”.
The Deputy Speaker when commending the Governor said that the project will enhance more production of food in the state.
The lawmaker stated that the major aim of the project is to ensure food security so that people in the state would have access to food without economic restraints.
He also advised politicians in the state to take agriculture as it was in the past. According to him, food security has become a global challenge and the only solution is for political office holders and career officers to lead by example by venturing into farming.
