The National Palm Produce Association of Nigeria (NPPAN) is set to revolutionize the country’s oil palm industry by establishing massive plantations in northern Nigeria. NPPAN President, Dr. Alphonsus Inyang, revealed this at a validation meeting for the Nigerian Oil Palm Development Strategy, aimed at revamping the nation’s oil palm subsector.
According to Inyang, Taraba State is already partnering with NPPAN to become a hub for oil palm production, leveraging its vast land area, favorable climate, and water resources. “Taraba State has more land for oil palm production than the whole of southern Nigeria,” Inyang said.
The association plans to expand to other northern states, including Niger, Kogi, and Nasarawa, which have suitable terrain for oil palm production. Inyang emphasized that going north is crucial to meeting the targets of the Nigerian Oil Palm Development Strategy.
