ABUJA, Feb 19, 2026 — The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has confirmed that former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El‑Rufai is currently in its custody as part of an ongoing investigation.
In a brief statement released just before midnight on Wednesday, ICPC spokesperson J. Okor Odey said: “The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) writes to state that Malam Nasiru El‑Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State, is in our custody. He is being held in connection with investigations.” No further details on the nature of the probe or the expected length of detention were provided.
El‑Rufai’s transfer to ICPC follows his earlier questioning by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged financial transactions amounting to about N432 billion during his tenure as governor from 2015 to 2023. Sources indicated that the EFCC’s inquiry was part of a broader anti‑corruption review of projects and expenditures under his administration.
The former governor has yet to issue a public response to the latest development. Investigations by both anti‑graft agencies are ongoing.
